gen an Fremdsehen.
Du wirst im Sommer, wie auch die anderen 14 TeilnehmerInnen von Fremdsehen, zwei Wochen in einem fremden Ort leben. Wie wirst du dort deine Zeit verbringen?
John Hanna: Ich werde nach Bad Mitterndorf gehen. Ich bin Architekt und möchte deswegen mit den EinwohnerInnen über die Geschichte des Ortes sprechen: Wann sind die Häuser gebaut worden und warum sind die Menschen überhaupt in die Stadt gekommen? Alle anderen vergleichbaren Orte in der Steiermark schrumpfen, aber Bad Mitterndorf wächst langsam. Mich interessiert deswegen, was das Besondere an Bad Mitterndorf ist.
Ihr sollt euren Aufenthalt auch multimedial präsentieren. Was sind deine Pläne dafür?
John Hanna: Ich möchte in Lokale gehen und dort mit den Menschen plaudern, vielleicht kann ich auch den Einen oder die Andere besuchen. Hauptsächlich möchte ich über meine Erfahrungen bloggen. Wahrscheinlich mache ich auch eine Fotodokumentation darüber.
Was motiviert dich persönlich, an Fremdsehen teilzunehmen?
John Hanna: Ich studiere zwar Architektur, aber ich interessiere mich für Sozialogie, Städtebau, Städteentwicklung und vieles mehr. Deswegen interessiert mich das Projekt sehr.
Bei Fremdsehen geht es vor allem darum, wie es ist, sich fremd zu fühlen. Du kommst aus Ägypten und lebst nun schon seit mehr als einem Jahr in Österreich. Fühlst du dich noch fremd?
John Hanna: Ja, ich fühle mich in Österreich noch immer wie ein Fremder. Ich glaube das liegt daran, dass ich noch nicht so gut Deutsch spreche. Ich war schon oft in den USA oder England, doch dort habe ich mich nie fremd gefühlt, weil ich sehr gut Englisch spreche. Deutsch spreche ich zwar mittlerweile auch, aber wenn Menschen in der Straßenbahn im Dialekt reden, kann ich das noch nicht verstehen.
Widerfährt Dir in Österreich Fremdenfeindlichkeit?
John Hanna: Ich persönlich habe nicht die Erfahrung gemacht, dass ÖsterreicherInnen ausländerfeindlich sind. Ich glaube nicht, dass alle Menschen, die FPÖ wählen auch ausländerfeindlich sind. ÖsterreicherInnen interessiert meine Herkunft und sie sind immer freundlich.
Was sind die größten Unterschiede zwischen Ägypten und Österreich?
John Hanna: Die Offenheit ist der größte Unterschied. Es dauert lange, bis man mit ÖsterreicherInnen befreundet ist. ÄgypterInnen sind da offener. Mir gefällt an Österreich, dass ich hier viel Privatsphäre habe.
